Change Your Attitude

One of my favorite quotes comes from the legendary Maya Angelou:

Admittedly, I am a bit of a control freak. Anxiety issues in my youth led me to try and control not only my environment but my emotions.

Trying to control every situation is a thankless and pointless job. It’s also really stressful. There are many things in life we simply can’t control, and it’s really no use trying.

Which brings me back to the wise Ms. Angelou. The one thing in life we can control- our attitude. The way you look at life, no matter the circumstances, is completely within your control.

Even happiness is a choice. There may be things that make it harder for you to be happy, but the overall emotion is a conscious choice.

Taking control of your attitude is the first step towards taking control of your life, your health and your future. Are you making excuses for yourself? Are you putting the blame on someone or something else? Do you take responsibility for your own health and well-being?

Only YOU control you. And if Maya Angelou’s words aren’t enough motivation, there’s always the Serenity Prayer:

“God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.”
